School Day of Non Violence and Peace

Hi folks!

Welcome to our first Bibliobulletin post!

This week in the Biblioteca Elemental we´ve all gone crazy about making origami cranes. Like this one:

"So, what´s all this about then?" I hear you say.

Well, Wednesday 30th January is the School Day of Non violence and Peace started by Llorenc Vidal Vidal a Spanish poet and pacifist.  Here is one of his poems:

You can help to spread world peace by coming and making a paper crane in the Biblioteca Elemental this week or write a peace poem for our display.

Check out our peace collection in the library just type "peace"  as your keyword into the find box of the Online Library Catalog click this link

The list includes such gems as Peaceful heroes by Jonah Winter about people willing to die for a cause but not to kill.

Welcome / Bienvenidos

Image Dear Readers:
Firstly congratulations to Máxima Gomez Palmer for coming up with the blog name Biblio Bulletin and welcome to the blog! Well after all the excitement of the “Name that blog spot competition” it´s nice to settle down to write the first posting!  We (your fabulous team of librarians) have been musing about what we would like to include in the Biblio Bulletin and our musings include:
  • let you know about the FANTASTIC NEW BOOKS we have
  •  get some involvement from YOU!
  •  talk about how you can get off WIKIPEDIA (much as we all love it too) and search for information more efficiently (because you´ll get BETTER GRADES that way!)
  • get you to REFERENCE sources
and
  • how to get you guys to BEHAVE respectfully and nicely in the library.
On the last topic I´ve been doing some research and I´ve found these rules from “The Librarian from the Black Lagoon”http://sharingtheshelves.blogspot.com.es/2012/11/library-rules-from-black-lagoon.html: Image A little bit silly I know! Here are some of the rules we are thinking about.  You are invited to add a silly OR ELSE clause to each rule. Keep them appropriate, but silly. ("Sit in a tank full of spiders" is funny, but "Sit in a tank full of spiders who eat you until you die" crosses a line.) RULES
  1. While you are in the library behave respectfully to your colleagues and staff OR ELSE….
  2. Tables are to be occupied by up to 4 students OR ELSE….
  3. Up to 2 students can work on a computer at a time OR ELSE…
  4. Computers are to be used for homework or study only OR ELSE….
  5. Books should be returned on time OR ELSE…
Contributions (vetted by the Librarians of course) will be published. Finally a little joke I came across: Conversation between two friends: Tom:  What are you doing this weekend Ben?
Ben:  I´m helping my Dad to do my homework.
Groan!  Don´t blame me it´s from The Usborne book of really awful jokes (J 398.2 usb). Image Miss Marie
