Making the most of your library (UK National Libraries Day)

Hello everyone,

Today is the UK's National Libraries Day

So, to bring a taste of the celebrations to Seville, here are my top 5 tips for making the most of your school library!

1. Check out Destiny Quest, a fantastic interactive version of the library catalogue. Using Quest you can search for resources, find out about new books and recommendations and find out more about the books you love; you can even download the app to your smartphone...

2. Do your homework in the library after school. Did you know that the library is open every evening until 7.30pm, and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 1.30pm? It's a quiet, comfortable space to come and do your homework, with the added bonus of a great selection of resources and a friendly librarian on hand to help you...

3. Look at the library displays. There are several places in the library where we display new and recommended books. Our newest display space is in the antesala, come and have a look, you are guaranteed to find something interesting...

4. Brush up on UDC. The Universal Decimal Classification system (or Clasificación Decimal Universal, CDU) is the system we use in the library to arrange the non-fiction books. By understanding how this works you will be able to locate books about your chosen subject quickly and easily, and it will help you to browse the collection when you don't know exactly which title you are looking for. Still confused? Check out this series of posters produced by the Albacete Public Library (in Spanish).

5. Ask a librarian. San Francisco de Paula's library is incredibly lucky to have 4 fabulous friendly librarians who are on hand all day long to help you: find books, do research, use the PCs and anything else that you might need us for. We love being asked for help, so whatever it is you need, please feel free to ask us!
